ictQatar invests in new ICT and Society division
Robin Blake, former Head of Media Literacy at Ofcom, recently joined the Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR) to lead its work on Internet and Society. “As recent events in the region clearly demonstrate, the development of the internet and social media in particular, has a real impact on the lives of millions of people. Qatar has the vision and resources to ensure that all those living in Qatar benefit from the many opportunities created by effective use of digital communication technologies. This is a great time to play a part in achieving that vision” said Robin. ictQatar is both the telecoms regulator for Qatar and the champion for the take-up and effective use of ICT across government, industry, education and the population as a whole. Key to delivering this remit is the ICT and Society Division which has three broad areas of responsibility:
1. Digital Communications Literacy - aims to provide a basic level of understanding of the use of ICT technologies to ensure a more effective engagement in Qatar's economic, civic and cultural life.
2. ICT Skills Development - deals with the development of e-skills and training and goes beyond the basic requirements for civic engagement to create a population that will be able to take part in the economic development of Qatar.
3. Internet and Society - this department focuses on understanding the changes brought by the growth of ICT and its use. This department is the research and policy arm of the division.
ictQATAR is growing and currently has vacancies for professionals with experience in digital inclusion, training and skills development and cyber safety. See the ictQATAR website for more details http://www.ict.gov.qa/page/careers
