New Chair of the Associate Parliamentary Media Literacy Group

Mr David Morris, MP was recently appointed as the new Chair of the Associate Parliamentary Media Literacy Group (APMLG).

The APMLG was established to promote greater understanding of the importance of media literacy and encourage the Government to develop and implement policies that strengthen media literacy in the population. It also aims to encourage the Government to find effective ways of monitoring and understanding the social impacts of media use and content.

David Morris was elected MP for Morecambe and Lunesdale in the 2010 general election. He has also been appointed to the Commons Science and Technology Committee. He was formerly the youngest constituency chairman in the country and was a party spokesperson on youth affairs at a national and European level.

Under the chairmanship of Rt. Hon Danny Alexander MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, the APMLG hosted a range of highly regarded debates for members including: Digital Participation; Helping Children Understand Digital Information; Teaching Media Literacy in Schools; Citizens’ Digital Participation; and Avoiding Inappropriate Content.
