New media literacy learning resource published by Ofcom
Last week Ofcom published Switch On! - a learning resource designed to support education for media literacy, and aimed particularly at professionals teaching or caring for people with learning disabilities. The resource has been designed to provide an introduction to, and a basic understanding of the media with a view to encouraging individuals to actively engage with, question and interpret the information and images presented to them through a range of media formats.
The resource is designed to support informal learning in a wide variety of contexts in addition to helping teachers preparing learners for the National Open College Network (NOCN) Entry Level Awards in Media Literacy at Entry Level 3 (for details see the NOCN website).
Switch On! was written by Marion Janner and Cary Bazalgette and was piloted by teachers and students in five institutions.
